More than one thousand years support the architectural, cultural and popular heritage of Andorra. The wealth of Romanesque architecture that can still be found in the Principality is a faithful reflection of its origins and traditions. In its valleys there are 40 churches in this style and also mediaeval bridges. Some of its wonders are: the church of Santa Coloma (Andorra la Vella, 9th and 10th century), the Church of Sant Miquel d´Engolasters (Escaldis-Engordany, 12th century), the Baroque murals and altarpieces of Sant Climent de Pal (11th and 12th century) and those of the Church of Sant Martí de la Cortinada (12th century) in Ordino.
La Casa de la Vall (16th century) a traditional manor house with Gothic frescoes showing scenes from the passion of Christ, which currently houses the Parliament and Court Building.
The Meritxell Sanctuary, which was built in 1976 by the architect Ricardo Bofill next to the old 17th-century hermitage, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, which was destroyed by fire in 1972.
Three old traditional houses, now converted into museums, that make up the Rural Housing Trail: Casa Crist dating from 1885 (Encamp), Casa Rull (Sispony - la Massana) and Casa d' Areny-Plandolit (Ordino).
Andorra has the highest and most extensive ski facilities in the Pyrenees. The Principality of Andorra is one of the leading ski destinations, thanks to its wide range of Alpine and cross-country skiing resorts, as well as the great variety and quality of leisure activities available, such as daytime and night walks on snow-shoes, trips on sleighs pulled by dogs, igloo building, descents in snow-bike, Telemark skiing, snow-motorbike trips and even ice-skating.
